Free Drawing

Free Drawing allows children to create their own artwork using various interactive tools and a watercolor palette with colors and textures. In addition to using their fingers, the app supports the use of real objects to paint, such as brushes and felt-tip pens.

Children are encouraged to experiment with different ways of creating, drawing, and painting. The PlayTable’s touchscreen, which detects both human touch and other objects, creates an interactive environment that invites children to unleash their creativity — drawing, painting, and reimagining freely. Children with motor or cognitive limitations find it even easier when using accessories such as brushes or stylus tips.

Game Features

This is a single-player app (one child at a time) but can also be used in cooperative work. On the start screen, under the “Menu” button, there are three options: narration, music, and sound. It is also possible to access game information and return to the home screen.

On the drawing screen, children can choose from several options:

  • Watercolor palette with 20 colors and 35 textures.

  • Tools: Pencil, Brush, Paint Bucket, Eraser, Texture Pen, and Ruler.

  • Different paper formats.

  • Different pencil and brush thicknesses.

  • Undo last action (single or all).

  • Save drawings to the Gallery or an external USB drive.

Opportunities for Educators

The Free Drawing app offers educators an excellent way to promote motor skills, as children develop movement control, spatial awareness, observation, and the ability to externalize their imagination while drawing.

Drawing is an essential activity in childhood development. With a palette of colors and textures, children can express themselves, communicate their thoughts and emotions, and demonstrate their skills, knowledge, and understanding of the world.

  • Observe how students interact with the different tools and textures, and how they express their ideas through drawing.

  • Encourage children to talk about their artwork, asking about their color and shape choices and what they represent.

  • Propose creative challenges, such as drawing a specific theme, expressing an emotion, or telling a story through images.

  • Use the save function to create a portfolio of the students’ work, tracking their progress over time.

  • Encourage collaboration, even though it is an individual app, by having students take turns, complement each other’s drawings, or create collective stories through shared illustrations.
